Homegrown Chinglish

January 1, 2008 / by soultrawler

Expatcisca posted some gutsplittingly funny examples of Chinglish over at her blog, prompting me to come up with some of my own (wordplay, one of my addictions!):

See ya!  So long.  (This is Chinese 4 beginners.)

Tell the truth! Wai yu lai?

Bankruptcy. Bai ying tu meh ni ting.

Which folks showed up 4 the shindig? Hu kum tu pah ti?

Glad to meetcha! Hau yu du?

Bad premonition.  Sin kin fee ling

Watching the clock.  Taim kee ping.

Needed a change.  Sum ting nu.

What was the cause of death?  Wai hi dai?

Small feline.  Tai ni ki ti.

Junky cookware.  Tin pan.

Like ta bowl?  Yu du ten pin?

Have a great 2008!  Ha pi nu yia!

We miss you!  Wen yu kum bai?

What's your beef?  Wai yu ang ree?

Stronger than one strand.  Tu plai.

Disingenuousness.  Du pli si ti.

Con artist.  Hu yu ki din?

Get a lawyer.  Yu in di pdu du.  (Actually, the 4th word looks like a Czech import...)

Reason 4 depression?  Wai shi sai?

I'm dying laughing!  Yu tu phun ni.  (This one courtesy of my friend Donna)
