Since my mother's family lost EVERYthing to the Soviets as a result of the insane war initiated by the Master Tarantulist of Germany, I've spent decades intensively studying the false religion called Nazism (rivaled only by the other modern false religion called Marxism). Almost 50% of Germans voted for Hitler, based on his promises to bail out Germany from the ravages of WWI. His devotees were convinced he was their Messiah. He provided them with an Ersatz-religion that in the beginning was full of sparkle and glamour and seeming promise. For the first 6 years, they were convinced that it "worked for them."
Similar scenarios took place on a smaller scale with such groups as Koresh's followers, Jim Jones' congregation and the "Heaven's" Gate crew. They all thought that their religions "worked for them."
